La Pouplinière (1693-1762) was one of the most brilliant patrons of art under the Old Regime. This connection with the old social order gave him means to bring together in his salon the most progressive spirits in literature and music like Voltaire, Rousseau, Rameau, Stamitz or Gossec. This study shows the interrelation of social and artistic life during the reign of Louis XV.
