These proceedings analyze the shifts in the image of Rome (as the subject of dramas and novels, and as the capital of the Catholic world and of the arts) at the turn of the 18th century. Satire attempted to destroy the Roman paradigm, but the fascination it betrayed ultimately cemented the City’s mythical status.
