This collection of studies (the result of 30+ years’ worth of work on the subject) attempts to pinpoint the generic specificity, aesthetic originality and social function of the French lyric poetry of the 12th and 13th centuries and of the “Second Rhetoric” of the late Middle Ages, which were both long disparaged.
