This study aims to characterize the act of “molding” a film, in the sense that clay can be molded: its conditions, its means, the creative issues it involves. It looks at the molding of visual obstacles, of faces and bodies and of the film itself, with examples taken from Bergman, Hitchcock, Ford and others.
